Today’s Feature Friday – Appa the Bus!
If you’re not familiar with the popular kids’ series Avatar: The Last Airbender, you might miss the reference to the giant flying white sky bison in this bus’s name. But we didn’t – and we immediately followed. The Last Airbender was a particular favorite of ours, and we watched the entire series three times with our kiddos in the last five years.
So when this giant white bus popped up in our feed sporting the moniker of one of our favorite cartoon animals, we knew this was a family worth following. But good taste in television series isn’t all they have going for them – they also have serious style.
From the minimalist neutral scheme to the huge soaking tub, @appa_the_bus has some seriously envy-worthy features. This is #skooliegoals at their finest.
THE MOST HYGGE-FEELING BUS WE’VE SEEN
Hygge, the Danish-inspired movement that is about cozy comforts and filling your life intentionally with only that which brings you joy, has spawned an interior design movement that encourages a neutral palette and lack of bric-a-brac. Hygge-inspired homes are cozy, soothing, and filled with simple touches that encourage relaxation and well-being. Appa the Bus is the epitome of this movement – neutral and cozy, with the furnishings, textures, and decor working together to create an environment where everything feels absolutely intentional.

INTENTIONAL SPACE FOR THEIR LITTLE ONE
In some builds, space for kids is limited and the design is on the overall feel for a family rather than geared toward their little ones. This bus has repeated touches that show the family’s Montessori focus extended into their build, like this sweet little shelving area for homemade toys that is the view from the bunk beds.

THAT BATHTUB THOUGH
The real star of Appa the Bus is this large Japanese-style soaking tub. Even as someone who has a pretty sweet bathtub in their build, this one is totally envy-worthy. Because we imagine a bath in this tub, surrounded by nature, is a truly heavenly experience.

COZY KIDS’ BUNKS
Speaking of intentional kids’ space – look at these adorable bunks next to the bathroom! We can totally imagine little ones huddled into their own cozy spaces, reading the day away while the rest of the world goes by unnoticed outside. When we were kids we loved building blanket forts and creating our own rooms. These bunks are like the next level of blanket fort building, and we dig it.

A PERFECT LITTLE KITCHEN
One of our favorite parts of this build is the cool features in the kitchen, like the cutting board at child height, open shelving, and large sink. Between the overhead shelving, large cupboards, and open shelving, it appears they have ample storage. We love that their wood stove is literally in the heart of their home and blends in perfectly with the rest of the kitchen. In other words – a little kitchen with big character.

A DISAPPEARING MASTER BEDROOM
Okay, we love our master bedroom. It’s a large part of our build and we spend tons of time enjoying the space when we travel, surrounded by open windows and comfy furnishings. But with the other aspects of this build like a huge tub and large kitchen, especially considering this is a slightly shorter bus, this is a genius part of their build – a master bedroom that disappears. Utilizing a murphy bed to create more space for daily activities with their family was definitely a tradeoff on their part, but one we can absolutely get behind.
